Geren’s Farm Supply

Little Feed Store on the Corner’ Voted Sensational Business.

Geren’s Farm Supply is the proud recipient of the Sandy Area Chamber of Commerce (SACC) fourth quarter Sandy Area Sensational Business Award.

The Gerens are the third family to own the “little feed store on the corner,” as part-owner Roz Rushing says, and with their ownership the store has “grown and morphed” into the popular place it is now.

What was once strictly a place to buy feed and tack is now a one-stop shop for different types of gifts, such as jewelry, handbags, accessories and home decor, and for toys for pets and their humans too.

What they offer for feed and pet supplies has grown as well, and in February they will start getting in chicks for those who wish to start or grow their flock.

Roz Rushing, right, recently became a 49 percent owner of her family business and her mother, Kathy Geren, still works hard alongside her to keep up with the demands of their customers.

“Our customers are very loyal and become like family,” Rushing says. “That’s fun to be a part of.”

Some customers go so far as to become employees of the store — they love the atmosphere so much they want to work in it.

Rushing’s parents, Les and Kathy, have owned the store for most of her life. And she and her husband plan to carry on the family ownership after her parents retire.

Rushing appreciates the support she is able to provide to the community in her capacity at Geren’s and the support the store receives back.

“We do really try to take care of and support our community,” Rushing says. “It’s a big honor to know that out community recognizes what we do and give back to our community. They appreciate us as much as we appreciate them.”

Chris Rushing, left, started working with his wife at Geren’s last year in order to start the generational transition in ownership as Roz’s parents decide to retire.
